 How to become an Apprentice

We are always open to applications for our Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship programme.

The next intake begins  March 2018 at our Bedale training centre in North Yorkshire - places still available.

Our Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Traditional Craft Skills offer a fantastic opportunity to prepare apprentices to fill the growing skills gap in our built heritage workforce. The programme we have written, developed and had accredited by NOCN, offers, for the first time, an entry point to the heritage skills sector for young people.

 

The Apprenticeship qualification covers all masonry, brick and earth along with all aspects of carpentry and joinery. These are recognised national full Apprenticeships funded via the Skills Funding agency through our partnership with Hartlepool Adult Education.

 

 

The Apprenticeship qualification framework is delivered over 17 months and covers either Masonry skills or Wood Occupations with all specialisms.

 

Included in all the new frameworks:

Construction technology

Materials Science

Measurement

Technical drawing

Tools and techniques

Along with substantial craft training covering a wide range and depth of skills.

 

 

Masonry route will include construction; repair and maintenance and conservation of masonry; brickwork and earth/clay buildings.

 

Wood occupations route will include green timber framing; repair and maintenance of timber structures and elements; manufacture of joinery product; repair and restoration of joinery products; conservation of joinery products.

 

 

Year 1

Will embrace the majority of the underpinning knowledge training, along with certain elements of NVQ assessment. We will also deliver the prerequisite functional skills and employer rights  and responsibilities qualifications where appropriate. These will all be delivered in our training centre in Bedale, North Yorkshire over 5 days per month in the first 12 months. This will be via block release from your work placement.

This will achieve the Traditional Craft Advanced Diploma at Level 3.

 

Year 2

Will be delivered as a combination of onsite support and assessment along with one week per month in centre.

This is to enable us to properly assess competence within a live working environment.

We will offer mentoring and coaching as appropriate throughout the

process and work closely with the employer, to ensure that all elements of the qualification can be covered.

 

This will conclude in the assessment of the NVQ L3 Diploma, leading to certification and you then applying for the the Gold CSCS card in Heritage Skills.

 

 

Level 2 in contemporary craft studies or equivalent

OR have a minimum of 5 years’ experience on-site

OR Proof of substantial knowledge & experience in traditional construction crafts

 

AND

You must be employed in a suitable capacity for more than 16 hours per week
